NOTE: Lower membership numbers are due to better tracking with CPMA/SPG now managing the membership data rather than previously with NPMA.
NOTE: Recent work on the list of subscribers has seen a reduction in the duplication of emails and an elimination of non-functioning emails from the list. This ‘cleaner’ list was recently uploaded to our new SquareSpace platform and will be used going forward.
As of the end of March, APMA has now reached the CRA revenue threshold requiring GST registration. As a result, Kent and I have begun the process of registering for a GST number and implementing formal GST tracking and reporting procedures.
Key implications include:
APMA will be required to collect GST on taxable income streams moving forward, including memberships, event registrations, sponsorships, and related fees.
GST collected must be tracked separately from revenue and remitted to CRA through scheduled filings.
APMA will also be able to recover a portion of the GST paid on eligible expenses (venue costs, subscriptions, software, services, etc.).
Accurate receipts and invoices will become increasingly important to support GST tracking and CRA reporting requirements.
This transition does not change APMA’s status as a non-profit organization.
Administrative systems (Zoho, Stripe, Squarespace, etc.) are currently being updated to support these requirements before the next major event cycle.
At this point, work on the Newsletter and the Website are inextricably linked. Once templates/pages are set up, it will be a simple matter to provide links going forward. But for now, it seems like every ‘building’ step requires two or three ‘background’ steps to get completed first.
Keep an eye on the site as changes are happening weekly. Also, if there are items that you think should be included that you do not see, please reach out and let me know. It is very helpful to have one CENTRAL hub where all relevant information for members, technicians and industry professionals can be accessed and updated on a regular basis.
